MDEQ Retests Well #2

The MDEQ has retested well #2 at the tap and post treatment and the test results came back as a non-detect. The Village will continue to monitor the PFOA/PFOS situation around the State of Michigan and monitor its own well system through testing annually for this chemical and related chemicals.

Purpose of the PFBS Information Page

This page will provide citizens resources regarding PFBS and will allow the Village to share information. The Village will work with the MDEQ and the Kent County Health Department to provide as much information as possible regarding the PFBS found in well #2.

Next Steps:

  • Working with Kent County Health Department to provide additional information regarding PFBS.
  • Waiting for MDEQ to develop guidance on what an acceptable level of PFBS.
  • Continue to update this page to provide additional information and resources regarding this information when they become available.

Village of Sparta Well Test Results

Below are links to the two separate tests completed for the Village of Sparta. The Village included links to just the test documents for the wells in the first two links. The last two links are the complete packages received when testing the wells. This includes the labs control testing against each sample and additional information. Any questions regarding the results in more detail would need to be directed to Pace Analytical Services who performed the lab work out of Minneapolis, MN.

Minnesota Department of Health Guidance on PFBS

There are not many states that have provided any limits or guidance on what an acceptable level of PFBS is in drinking water. The State of Minnesota Department of Health has created a guidance document which you can see if you click the link below. It is important to note their guidance is 2 parts per billion (ppb) which equates to 2,000 parts per trillion (ppt). The Village well #2 tested at 3.3 parts per trillion.
