Sparta Fire and Rescue

The Sparta Fire department serves both the Village of Sparta and Sparta Township 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sparta Fire and Rescue is a fully volunteer department.

Sparta Fire and Rescue

The Sparta Fire Department is a joint partnership between the Village of Sparta and Sparta Township. Funding for the department comes from both the Village and the Township in an effort to provide the highest level of safety for the residents in both the Village and Township. The department’s operations are overseen by the Sparta Fire Board which is comprised of members of the Sparta Village Council and Sparta Township’s Board of Trustees. The board appointed Dan Olney as the Fire Chief to direct the department’s day-to-day operations and oversee a staff of 24 on-call firefighters. There is a rotating Chairman for the Fire Board which is staffed by either the Village President or the Township Supervisor for a two year term. Dale Bergman, Sparta Township Supervisor, is the current Chairman.
